Every year, community members, mentors, and families come together to honor the young scholars who are living proof that our mission is working.

Our mission is to provide young men facing adversity in Northern & Central NJ with strong, enduring, professionally group mentoring relationships that will change their lives for the better. We partner with families, volunteers, organizations and the community at large to inspire positive change through education, scholarships, community enrichment, and other charitable activities.
The Sigma Community Enrichment Initiative, Incorporated (SCEI) was established in 1997 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization affiliated with the Chi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Founded on the principles of brotherhood, scholarship, and service, SCEI was created to serve as a structured vehicle through which the members of Chi Sigma Chapter could extend their commitment to community beyond the chapter itself and into the lives of those who need it most.
SCEI is organized for the purpose of fostering youth mentoring, education, scholarship, and community enrichment programs for the betterment of communities throughout the greater Northern New Jersey area. The organization operates with the belief that investing in young people — particularly those in underserved and underrepresented communities — is one of the most impactful and lasting contributions that can be made. By providing access to resources, guidance, and opportunity, SCEI works to help individuals realize their full potential and become active contributors to their communities.
One of the primary ways in which SCEI fulfills its mission is through its dedicated support of the Sigma Beta Club program. The Sigma Beta Club serves as a youth development initiative that engages young men in mentorship, leadership training, civic engagement, and academic enrichment. Through this program, participants are connected with positive role models and given the tools they need to navigate their personal, academic, and professional journeys with confidence and purpose.
A cornerstone of SCEI’s community impact is its scholarship program. Over the past twenty years, SCEI, in partnership with Chi Sigma Chapter, has awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships to deserving minority seniors who are pursuing higher education. These scholarships are more than a financial contribution — they are a statement of belief in the recipients and a recognition of the hard work, dedication, and resilience they have demonstrated throughout their academic careers.
In keeping with its longstanding tradition of recognizing academic achievement and civic excellence, SCEI remains deeply committed to celebrating the accomplishments of the next generation of scholars and leaders. Each year, the organization proudly honors a new class of scholarship recipients whose achievements reflect the very values that SCEI was built upon — excellence, service, and the pursuit of knowledge.
